Teamwork in Disability Support
You work alone but you are not working alone. What makes a support team function, what a good team member actually does, and how to handle conflict without it reaching the participant.
About this certificate
Non-accredited Certificate of Completion. Your employer's grievance and conflict resolution procedures apply alongside this.
About this module
Support teams are unusual: members rarely see each other, communicate mostly through notes, and work across different shifts in someone else's home. That makes consistency hard and conflict easy. This module covers what a functioning support team looks like, the behaviours of a good team member, handover as the backbone of the whole thing, and how to deal with conflict directly and early.
Who it is for
All disability support workers, SIL and group home staff, and team leaders.
What you will be able to do
- Describe what makes a support team effective
- Apply the behaviours of a reliable team member
- Give and receive a handover that actually works
- Address conflict early and directly
- Recognise when a team problem has become a participant safety problem
Aligned to
- NDIS Practice Standards — Governance and Operational Management
- NDIS Code of Conduct — elements 4 and 5
- Work Health and Safety Act 2011 — duties to others
